Porsche also says that the Carrera S manual is considerably lighter than the standard model, which should help offset the slower gearchanges. Porsche has also introduced a new nose-raising system, called Smartlift. Are you excited to see the manual Porsche Carrera come to the UK?
The idea of a seven-speed manual transmission might have been odd a decade ago, but it's been subsequently normalized through its installation in big-name vehicles like the Porsche , the Chevrolet Corvette and… OK, maybe just those two. You may have heard a rumor that a seven-speed will turn up in the new Ford Bronco, too, but if a new report is true, it won't be anything like the 7MTs in those other cars.
According to a report from TFLCar , the forthcoming Ford Bronco will contain a seven-speed manual transmission with a "crawler" gear. Without diving into too much detail about angular velocity ratios, let's just define a crawler gear as a first gear designed foremost with low-speed, high-torque applications in mind -- slowly traversing rocky areas being a solid example.
It allows a vehicle to move very slowly while producing loads of torque, above and beyond the first gear that you'd find in your average passenger car. That's the long and short of it. That would give the Bronco some serious off-road capability without demanding a two-speed transfer case or other hard-core hardware designed without a beaten path in mind.
The system detects the current traffic situation using radar and video sensors and adapts control accordingly. The system even recognises roundabouts. Like with conventional adaptive cruise control, InnoDrive also continuously adapts the distance to the vehicles in front. The new optional Smartlift function for all versions allows the front end to be lifted automatically at corresponding locations where the vehicle is driven regularly. With the electrohydraulic system on the front axle, the ground clearance at the front apron can be increased by around 40 millimetres.
The system saves the GPS coordinates of the current position at the push of the button. If the driver approaches this position from the same direction again, the front of the car will lift up automatically. The leather package introduced with the Turbo S is now optionally available for the Carrera models.
This evokes the first Porsche Turbo Type and is characterised by a coordinated interplay of colours, materials and individual enhancements. The equipment package includes quilted seat centre panels at the front and rear, quilted door panels, as well as other extensive leather trims.
